East Scotland

The East of Scotland is famous for its stunning and rugged landscapes plus there’s an abundance of attractions to visit. Fife hosts numerous festivals over the course of the year including the Fife Whisky festival in March, the Anstruther Harbour Festival in July and the Pittenweem Arts Festival (you must check out the town’s local chocolate whilst you are there). The East Neuk is renowned for its fish and chips!

Dundee, a coastal city, known as the ‘City of Discovery’ was previously called the city of ‘jute, jam and journalism’ during industrial times. Pay a visit to Verdant Works, a museum celebrating the city’s jute-manufacturing heritage or RRS Discovery, Captain Scott’s Antarctic expedition ship. The V&A is the first dedicated design museum in Scotland and showcases the best of international design and innovation.

Learn more about the city in the McManus Museum and Art Gallery which has eight themed galleries over two wheelchair accessible floors. There are a number of delightful and accessible gardens that are worth a visit and no trip to Dundee would be complete without sampling a piece of Dundee cake.

Glamis Castle, in Forfar, often described as one of Scotland’s most beautiful castles, was the home of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother as a child.  It is also the setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.  Although closed during winter months, it offers lots of events throughout the rest of the year.
