ABOUT
Our Founder
Our founder Sam James had a diving injury back in June 2017 at the age of 19, leaving him with a high level spinal cord injury (C5/6).
Before his injury he was a joiner and had just bought a van to convert into a camper as he loved the freedom and adventure this offered.
Although his dream was temporarily put on hold it was never forgotten. Three years down the line Sam started to design an accessible camper to accommodate a large range of needs, as there just aren’t many out there, and that’s where Wheeleasy Camping was born.
Sam discovered during rehab that he enjoyed mouthpainting. In March 2022, he held his first art exhibition which was a huge success. The following month, Sam’s art was featured on Grayson’s Art Club on Channel 4. The theme of the episode was ‘Holidays’ which gave Sam the opportunity to speak about his camper van dream. Sam’s artwork has been chosen by Grayson to be displayed in his exhibition at the end of the year in Birmingham.
Sam is a proud ambassador of the Rooprai Spinal Trust. The RST does incredible work helping injured people access life changing physio and support through there scholarship programs.
Sam is also an ambassador for the Back Up Trust, a charity that offers a variety of opportunities for people with spinal injuries from skiing trips to courses that help you get back to work.
OUR VISION
Our vision is for travelling in a camper van to be just as simple and enjoyable for wheelchair users as it is for able bodied people. Our aim is to provide a camper that is functional and accessible whilst still keeping the cool and sleek design of other campers.
